audio I want to see was you want it stops recording hi my name is Matthew Jonas and this is the William welcome to Nicholas a ferry Middle School parent info night during coming 6th graders as I said my name is Matt Jonas and mr. skipworth and mrs. Hunt are going to unmute in play some selves again for skipworth nice to meet everybody I was good the second time all right so what we're going to talk about tonight is the first day of school for the kids coming in their classes and scheduling how that works arrival and dismissal which the nature to process and then also FM Es at a glance somebody brought in the first day of school I believe is August 31st at that point by the by the 31st your children will talk about this later your students will have hopefully come to our Summer Orientation that's on the 16th and Mrs final talk a little bit about so they will have a better understanding will go through this slideshow with them on that day also and address some of their concerns coming in to school cuz it's a pretty big step and we know that it's on the first day of school your child will have gotten a digital copy of their schedule and a hard copy what we will be mailing those out but just so everyone knows our primary mode of communication is email so we'll be sending a mass email out to everybody as we did for this just to keep everybody on board and what's happening so when students enter the school will be in the will be in the school will be at both doors and we'll talk about arrival and dismissal but will be directing students to their home room or the cafeteria that's largely depending upon the holding areas that we have as we all know with covid things have been a bit unpredictable and it's hard to plan 5 months ahead and exactly what we're going to do but I can tell you it'll be one of two things it'll either be students 6th graders that enter I'll be direct to the cafeteria or 6th graders that answer will be directed directly to their homeroom which will be indicated on their schedule as things get closer and we know where we all stand again will be turn on email or even a phone call probably a phone call cuz that's an important detail so if they go to the cafeteria then we will disperse them to their homeroom it's just an app at its death will call their names in the cafeteria and I are there homeroom in Home Room it'll be extended deal that the homeroom teachers which will be will determine their team to homeroom in the gate 13 we'll talk about all the important workings of the school no they'll they'll explain the schedules they'll go over the handbook a little bit they'll probably be given quite a bit of paperwork so are you all to read and sign and return to the school lockers will be assigned but probably the first week of school and just kind of give you a clue on Locker we don't allow students to bring their own life because we need to gain access to those locks are we we keep track of the code so the school has locks but we ask for a $5 deposit so that they're not lost her and then we'll explain this in a little bit but they'll follow a regular scheduled. Will be shortened but it'll just kind of get them a feel of the way that the day goes and they'll have a lot of dirt and then for lunch it's students can buy lunch I think it's back to buying lunch but we do provide snacks but they they don't have to have to be paid for and just as as lunch will need to be paid for next year two classes and scheduling which is always an important part of the transition to middle school so as you know Middle School much like I went to Junior High little different but there's movement in between classes and to get the general idea of things we have two teams at our school reach grade in about 3 grade 6th 7th and 8th and each grade has is assigned a Team 6 white or six blue you can see in this graphic here obviously that the numbers highlighted in blue are the home rooms that are associated with Lucci and that's actually upstairs and if you come to the open house tomorrow to walk around just kind of look at the building that hallway will be indicated at 6 blue and then below that is the the white team and knows of the home attached to the white team 104 105 112 113 and 206 and again not hallway will also be labeled as such so team indicates a couple of things I guess that's probably the next question that you all have is a what are the teams in the Kate well team the team indicates that five periods a day there will be your student will be on that team in that hallway so they'll received the five major core content is Ela which is English language arts nah Science History and then we have all students Take A literacy class which is being an extension of English language arts so all five of those classes will be in that team hallway so there's not a lot of travel 5. Today was not allowed travels really nearly ten steps across the hallway AR-15s down the hallway so that should see some of the anxiety of getting lost is what we often hear from 5th grade students coming up and look at the school we're still doing this week we often hear the concerns about being lost points of the day they're traveling with in a hallway the other classes where they would travel outside of that hallway are things like music computer science PE help our world language and geometry and if you look at the graphic below you can see that it says one by 5 or 2 by 5 and I need to keep how often are having it in a five-day school week also while I'm talking about that Mr skipworth will post in the chat a bunch of forms one would be the Music Choice form I shared out with you I want to say a month-and-a-half two months ago at the beginning of this month of May and we we need you to pick up music course they'll have that depending on the course they choose how the schedule work still have that once a week we could have visible attention love making band twice a week but we're working on the specifics of the schedule a schedule of this size and with this many students is is if you don't want to make promises that I can't keep right now so we're going to work on that over the summer hoping to get band twice a week but at the very least it will be once and computer science at the same computer science will get will be once a week World Language will be once a week and then geometry skills which is geometry skills exactly what it's titled as that'll be once a week and the reason that we're doing this patterning of classes that are once a week for the 6th grade is cuz our intent is we're trying to move to an area where 7th and 8th grade are choosing now they're picking between you know if they don't like General music and they don't want that twice a week now they can go to the computer side any any any combination of those but we want to try that with trying to specialize couple it's a thing that we're doing differently we're trying to specialize in the 7th and 8th grade to get students more focused, halfway with in the Middle School so any of those classes that I mentioned are the classes that students would leave their hallway and travel the building to find that's the only time of the day where a student you like oh my God where is this but we've never what we haven't yet lost a sixth grader and we don't plan to we have teachers in the hallway and we're we're out and we're helping the 6th grade we know what a 6th grader lost face looks like and adequately equipped to get him where they're supposed to be if you look at this I just want to kind of show you what the schedule looks like just so you understand signed it so it's not confusing at all in fact the Monday schedule is every Monday that they are in the building Tuesday scheduled every Tuesday they're in the building this is their schedule you can see in the middle there at 10:39 that's when we have lunch so we have six lunches a day here at Berry Middle School we have a large school about her kids and in the past we've had group launches where you know any given time there could be two hundred and fifty kids in the cafeteria we noticed that that was a little bit much and we thought it'd be much much more comfortable for the kids and more enjoyable for that if we split the lunch by team so you know if you take Monday in particular you know you look at that Monday schedule at 10:39 to 11:03 is when six white would be in lunch blue would be an intervention so this is a six Blues schedule Dan at 11:07 those roles would switch and I said once again at the idea idea there is to have you know it now is it down to 120 kids in the cafeteria at a time versus double that and we found over the over the last year or so we've done a lot of change me a lot over the last year or so that this is the best way to go we we do hammer home that there's only seven students per table and we do hammer home that nobody can sit alone so that's an important sticking point for us especially the first day of school so everyone has a place and a person to sit and then you just see as you see you know like that Monday schedule at its lapso on Tuesday at 6 Blue at at 6 Blue might be an intervention and six white isn't lunch to our vice versa however I said it and that it switches so all six grade is done eating by 11:30 which brings me to the next point which is Chromebooks so from what we understand if point and things change but I don't think this will computers from the elementary school would be will will be given to a child to take home over the summer so we're meeting with students today or this whole week Beach Elementary School and just hammering home how important the Chromebook is how it's a it's a it's a tool that we use everyday all the time and how important and how much responsibility they take on with taking those Chromebook home and taking care of them especially over how long summer and then making sure that when they come to our orientation or when and when they come to that first day of school that they're Chromebook is charged fully charged and ready to go it's just the other Chromebook Aloha Oe we do like to not use the Chromebook when we can because it's writing and math for instance is much more functional on paper Wida Chromebook is a tool that's necessary for us here at Burnet Middle School but with great power comes great responsibility and like I said taking that Chromebook home making sure it's charged every night and taking good care of it is is Paramount so I'm going to go over arrival and dismissal it is a pretty intricate process we worked on it overtime Chopin drop office in the back I'm going to give you a graphic of this so right now it's just going to ask that you try to visualize what I'm saying and then I'll explain it to you with the graphic parent drop-off is in the back of the building so you pull turn off of Atwood Ave and you stay left around the building if you're dropping your child off you'll see the line of cars cuz we don't open the doors until 7:41 again for the for many reasons but we don't like large holding areas middle school kids are interesting and when you allow them to congregate in one area too long it's like Idle Hands are moms hands so we we open the door 741 and this allows them to go directly to their locker and then to the to their homeroom if you're waiting in the parent drop-off line it's just you're just getting in the line and driving tell you to drop off we may ask kids to walk on a dry day obviously you can let out as soon as you get that grass you can let out the students can walk along the grass and right to the door and that continues the flow of traffic we're we're we're on it where I'm usually sitting in a window staring at the traffic flow until it's time that it gets nearer to the light and then that's when we start to let out some times we asked them to wait in line outside the door in a nice day like last couple of days that you know your child gets out and just wait in line till the door open 7:41 mnf around 7:50 we never shut the door in anyone's face I promise you that around 7:50 we do shut the door when the traffic subsides a little bit and then we head up at that point if you pull around and we have we would have shut the door and you'll kind of travel around to the front of the building and drop off in the front Bus drop off in the morning happens in the front of the building so the reason that we have such a process with parent drop-off is cuz we can't have those two lines of traffic intersect to the front part of the building is where the bus is dropped and similar to the to the back soon as you get off the bus and go directly into homeroom and dismissal is a little bit easier and I'll show you this graphic but buses line the front and the back of the building and we those are number so let's say the 10 bosses in the front of the building are 101 just for the sake of Simplicity 10 12 bus 110 is in the front and then 1:11 to 1:21 isn't and so at the time of dismissal especially for the first couple of weeks 6th grade is our primary target we tell them we're very pointed to let them go early let them get to their Bus location and get on the bus I can't tell you that it happens it happens every year one or two kids missed the bus we I think the sign of a successful school first day of school is we have no one missing the Boston that's happened before but it's stopping you know so we let out early and we make sure that we try to get everybody on there as soon as possible and then as the week goes on the weeks go on it becomes and then student pick up is dicey we usually have our sosro off at the door and I'll show you where that door is on the graphic but it's a this the traffic flow in this building and spending so much time on it is Messi bright all right out of that without if you take a right is that with a straight ahead as we are we let students out so we have our school resource officer out there but it's congested with bosses so we always tell her that if they can for many reasons if they can put their student on the bus or arrival and dismissal that's absolutely ideal however I do I have a middle school aged kids I guess sometimes we have to pick him up we ask that if get in and park great but if you can't have them meet you in exterior locations like the library or on Morrell Ave obviously but in other locations but like I said you'll see if you don't believe me you'll see that those first couple of days parent drop-off and kind of pick up is going to drop off his very organized in the morning, pick up is is its congestive that area so you'll see and once again I always ended with I totally understand the need and want to drop your child off but if you have a bus and you can give them the bus that might make your life a lie easier in the morning and I went over that oh and yeah in the drop-off and pick-up schedule as most of you probably know is is going to be published in the sunrise closer to the beginning of August and then who was my graphic okay so if you look at the graphic and then I'm going to hand this off to mrs. skipworth if you look at the graphic you can see Atwood Ave on the right side on the right side here and then you pull in and that's basically that red line is where the line of traffic goes through right the head of that arrow that makes the curve is basically where the back door is so when said the grass you can see this grass along the side when you are in that line you know when we when we come out you see me walk out you can let your child out and walk on that grass right up right around the buildings where the head of the arrow is and then they're in line we have officer ardito our school resource officer and Mr skipworth out there directing traffic pulling people off the Memorial Ave the reason that you don't go around find is because remember I said at the at the front of that building right there that's the front of where is his Johnson public schools superintendent that's wrong that's wrongfully labeled that's actually the front of fairy and nut and not area is the front where the buses are line so you have an understanding and then we talked about Walker Darby to so the congestion happens in the bottom right-hand corner of that Circle that's where buses that's where students are let out by the d-end door and then read the bottom there on the right hand corner was no corners in a circle but you know what I mean that gets congested so I'm going to hand this off to mr. skipworth and all right I think Mister Jonas and hello everyone just like to take a quick moment to go over some of the key things in the handbook I'm a pretty expensive so I would you ask if she takes time to look it over with your child it's available online but we can provide paper copies as needed the ham book is kind of a One-Stop shop for all things carry and one of the key areas is in regards to discipline several reasons we like to go over discipline at this time by the first is that middle school is a major transition for everyone for possibly the first time your child is in a new building with new teachers and new students from other schools and I have figure out where they fit in all the second reason is that adolescence is a tough time and I found in my years here that students tend to push the envelope to see what is acceptable and what's not I'm sure that if we all think Tyrone Middle School years I you know exactly what I mean I have some horror stories from those year I'm in the last reason is that sometimes students make what your expectations as parents on the back burner in favor of what their friends made many of the kids I'll be honest Rise Above This pressure but it does happen so our job is to kind of make sense of all those factors to maintain a learning environment where all students can find success on the best way to do that is by keeping you in the loop like we are now so Mister Tony's just switch to this lovely pyramid you know to address the moment of indiscretion if you will. Kids have we've designed this pyramid that has three tiers it reflects. score of our disciplinary system we recognize that students make mistakes but there are opportunities to turn things around and we do our best to take into account the student the situation and you're in when making all the decisions we never want You by surprise so that's why we seek your support I'm in there a couple of key areas on the next couple of slides that we'd like to emphasize but as I tell the kids you know if everyone puts their best foot forward none of this will be an issue I can you go to the next slide and stones thanks alright so one of the first areas is in regards to bullying bullying is not tolerated at starting Middle School do we do understand that it has which is unfortunate but we would like to make the distinction that bullying is most often repetitive and is an assertion of power over someone else or I point this out because sometimes students engage in some back and forth. behaviors in a whether it's teasing or push and shove back and forth but that would not constitute bullying unless those criteria that are outlined in the handbook are met nevertheless my rule of thumb that I use is intent vs. impact all right and it basically means it's not what we mean by a behavior it's how it's perceived or felt by others all right and that is why you know whether it's bullying or not we will address Casino all instances where students feel unsafe or uncomfortable along those same lines we do have a very stringent a Hands-On room where we asked all students to keep their hands to themselves on a zyxel the kids here now like I don't live in a world where I have to worry about getting into a fight at Stop & Shop or someone hitting me when I go to the bank and all we're trying to do our relay those same guidelines because it's just how we operate in society we don't put our hands on each other just randomly for the heck of it or because we say it's a joke all right so we definitely have that stringent rule alone with this keep in mind if incidents occur outside of school a we can insist we can assist in some ways but we are not permitted and cannot consequence students in school or at behaviors that happened outside school all we can do is contact all parties involved and I'll make them aware that we can direct you to our school resource officer for additional help or we can offer your contact information to the other parties involved so that you guys can have a conversation that's the route you want to go right next to me right next up is cell phones if you're like me you want to be able to reach your child at any time and fortunately cell phones allow us to do that these days on in the past it's great but as with any new invention there are unintended side effects of the biggest of which for us is the distraction to the learning by suffice it to say students don't always use their devices for educational guilin School whether it's you know trying to send texts making memes they're trying to make Tik-Tok videos in bathroom taking pictures of teachers or recording inappropriate behavior they're all things we've dealt with that interrupts the flow is a j in their goal which is to learn that's why we asked students to keep their devices out of sight can realistically we would prefer them to be at home all right but we do ask him to be out of sight and powered off preferably in their locker in addition you know having these phones away during school days minimize this kind of the impact of social media which is something else that we can't end with a lot so if we can minimize you know things being circulated on social media during the school hours we're going to do that I'm at the same time we do also ask that parents kind of routinely check your child's device see what they're doing because we want to make you are that they're doing what you want them to do with their device all right and I cannot stress enough how important it is to check that phone on the regular because yeah there's some experiences that we've had you know and again it's because the kid growing up in there figuring out what boundaries working which ones don't call right and next life we went to Jonas Andy last point is I'm in regards to attendance are we ask that your child be school as often as possible so they can get the most out of their fairy experience toward that end if students are frequently absent there are procedures in place likewise there are guidelines for excessive tardiness and we do Under life happens and we're willing to accommodate know but please make sure that your child is in school regularly so we can give them the education they deserve all right I know that Wednesday night discipline is probably lasting anything wants to talk about what kids are kids and they are going to make all kinds of choices good and bad but at the end of the day this is our house you know I spend more time here than where's my family some weeks and we welcome your daughter Sons and Daughters to get a lot of time with Terry family but the policies that we have in place exists to ensure that our home is safe and keeps all students focused on their education and my hope is that we can count on your support throughout because I believe that only together can we continue to ensure that fairy remains a great place to learn and grow when I think so that's all I've got right now so I'm going to hand it off to hi everybody I'm going to be taking you the next few slides I just want to say I know that somebody raised a hand we're going to allow for questions at the end so just hang tight and we'll get to that part soon okay so the next point is about students coming in on time they have to be in homeroom by 7:55 it is critical that students are in school and here learning they need to be in school it's it's important that they're here on time and anytime after that they're going to be marked late we do have truancy court and they will be referred if they are late consistently or absent the next point is social media which I know I was just your breath discussed and what's important we want to stress is that collaboration and communication is key we want you to call us and not to us we need to collaborate think that's the best way for everybody to be on the same page so that the kids know that there is consistency okay so we have a lot of different things that fairy I'm going to go so the first thing that we have is student shout outs where students can be recognized for different things that could be academics it could be behavior and teachers will fill out a shout out it's a little sore and it will be with the students name and it will write what they recognize their recognized for so I could be for many different reasons we have that throughout the entire year we also have Team incentives where different teams do different incentives on their team so depending on what team they're on they do. activities in again it's all throughout the year we also have fairy snack passes which we give in the cafeteria and it's just a little hard that says that they are allowed to buy a snack they can buy snacks we have drinks in the cafeteria as well we also have Team competitions and a lot of this is done through student council but it's just different activities that we have wear for example we have called a witch we had today we're different teams has Reggie from and then we tally up how many kids were in that color and so it's a competition between the teams we have dances this year we just recently had a dance and it was a really big hit a lot of kids like to eat the dances student council typically runs those dances along with ptso and if your child gets involved with student council they can be part of the planning process as well but those are always fun we also have here which is in March where we have different activities planned to do team building and recognize students for their actions that's a month-long of activities that we focus on and at the end we have accommodating event where we recognize different individual students and they get like a little of water type of thing we have Spirit Week throughout the year and those are run by student council that's pretty much you know we have different weeks depending on the and we'll have different duties where they dress up and different things like it could be a hot day or it could be you know Brian J and things like that so that happens a couple times a year and then we have fundraisers in those are for just different events that are happening especially in the community and whatnot wherever I thought you did so again that could be a team thing or it could be a school thing okay so we have a lot of different things that kids can get involved in here the first group is above the influence we also play t.i. and that educate students about substance use your child can get involved with any of these activities they're all just you know if they want to participate we have announcements that come on through sorry lying we have emails that go out and sell they can find out about when they're meeting and they can join in at any time and I highly suggest that your child gets involved at the best way for them to get the full experience yet sorry we have the green team which leaves the recycling initiatives in the building we have a writing and drama club and that meets was no longer meeting at the end of the year but that was meeting probably once a month maybe once every 3 weeks and they do different things with writing a drama we have Unified sports where we have the active participants and then we have helpers as well so your child can be picked for that as well and then the dances in competitions which again is through GPS and student council we have a check well that just started this year your child can get involved with that we have two teachers that are the advisors there this year on I don't know what that would be like next year but we do have that option for next year as well we have fairy News live where students can read the announcements every morning and they work with Miss Wheaton who's our librarian and then we have student council which is open to everyone as well and then those that group need to it's probably once a month or so and they planned okay we have a lot of different sports gear that your child can get involved in we have soccer which again all notifications will be coming out through email for this so you'll be notified when campfire and when there's a game and what not been scheduled so that's going to be all through email so please make sure you're checking your email we have cross-country we also have cheerleading and then we have girls and boys basketball we have wrestle and then baseball and softball we have track and then volleyball but that's at the club level so again please make sure you're checking your email we have to make sure that we have your current email on file a lots of times parents don't get our email so as long as we have that you'll get notifications okay important upcoming dates we already know that picture day is September 22nd we don't have a date yet for Open House of Time conferences but again that would be sent via email so I will send him a flyer as well Auntie Pasto we are looking for members to join our pcso we would love for you to join and if you want to be the president we would love that as well that is the email there and you can always reach out to mister Jonas was just give birth or myself if you have interest in being in a roll and I have a date yet for next year but we'll keep you informed of that and I believe that's the last night and so at this time if you I'm lying you're just so we have summer orientation dates 04 a Thornton and Brown Avenue kids we have Tuesday August 16th and that's for any incoming 6th grade student and they're going to be here from 9 to 11 and then at from 12 to 2 we have Windsor Hill and Barnes on that same day and so we just do different activities with the kids will play with the locks will do different activities in the building to get them you know accustomed to the building will answer questions that they might have and things like that that's really a fun time and I know that he had a link that went out which I don't know if mrs. get put in the chat but there's a link that went out you didn't already sign up for it and we can give that to you as well so you can sign up at you didn't already I think that's the last line but this time if you have any questions you can put them in the chat room representative you can jump to that sorry to interrupt hi everyone thank you so I was just get fourth dimension my name is Caitlin on the Johnson prevention Coalition coordinator I also coordinated drug free communities Grant so we address use marijuana tobacco used in the Johnston Community and the Coalition is made up of school the school administration police students parents and mother Johnston Community members with the input of the members we create and disseminate materials to educate the students and parents and School staff around Johnston on you substance prevention our main goal for the Coalition is to keep Johnson used healthy and substance-free as mentioned before the above the influence group I work a lot with the group of high school and in the middle school and the group's name what's the Foster place where students can be leaders among their peers in saying about the influence of substance use and other age relevant struggles you know everything that's going on and that's going on with a pressure and stuff like that so yeah I'm a great resource to reach out if you guys are in need of anything I also want to encourage you to encourage your children to step into a leadership position and joining me t.i. it's a great opportunity for them to get involved I think I can leave my information in the chat if not I'm going to be at the school tomorrow for the open house are you guys want to chat for any resources or any information on when I do anything like that perfect thank you so we are going to open the chat up for questions I know that we threw a lot at you we are in 10 is always not over talk and then we end up getting talking about what goes on in school and then we end up blowing out of the water but we will certainly stick around for questions so if you can type in the chat then feel free to I have some questions in there hot so we have what time is pick up show drop off at school the doors open at 7:41 and then we start dismissal just before 2 like I said at the start of the year try to dismiss what we do dismissed by grade and most times starting with the sixth grade so it might be earlier at first and then kind of start to Teeter towards later on will not later on minutes later maybe more towards 2 imma try to keep up with these questions do you have a walkthrough practice. So we do offer walkthroughs tomorrow night I'm not sure if you all wear tomorrow night we will be here from 5:30 to 7 for you to come to the building with your child if you'd like in walkthrough we're getting we're trying to get some teachers here but we will you know it ministration will be at my daughter has a talent show that I'm going to attend briefly and then try to shoot back but I will be here you are free to come in and walk the building will be here for questions should you want to ask question or then you know in truth be told is that you can always email any of us and our emails are on the website will gladly answer back I'm here all summer I try to take some time but I'm here all summer and I mean the first the earlier part of the summer we do summer school and but and there's a lots of cleaning and sanitary things going on so as it's closer to the end of the summer in mid to late August the kid that students come on a 16 so we're trying to make that a natural thing but obviously we are here if you have a child that super anxious or needs to walk through the building again where where will gladly do so schedule show we don't usually release the schedule for in advance I'm going to tell you the truth why we don't do that sometimes we don't do that because then the school gets inundated with my son is not with his best friend can you please switch their teams and like I tried to explain his 800 schedules things are pretty placed in pretty good and so we we try to avoid those type of conversations in a lot of what heals that pain of not being with your best friend is spending a little bit of time on team with with the kids that that has that have been revealed to as a team member of your son or so the schedules probably won't come to you until I would say I don't hold me to this by say like mid to late August it wouldn't be a ton of time of course in special situations if the schedules are ready and we have student we have a student that is you know is teeming with an anxiety where we want night but we just we do also want to avoid 800 emails about changing teams I hope that makes sense I hope I don't sound like a jerk but it is it's a lot here are not cheerleading cheerleading has evolved since since we've been here. Select department is now taking that and the new well from what I understand the new look of cheerleading is going to be it's going to be a fall activity and it's going to be more of a dance competition cheerleading and which out I was very excited to hear is that the athletic director is looking to try to get our cheerleaders to perform at the halftime of high school games with us far more viewers of games and it's as far as Sports I think cheering at sports Mister Cory is working on and on and I are working on the call to make that work does not allow the ruin the gym for cheerleaders for basketball season so that's why they're pushing it do The Fall season I think it's in development the idea of cheerleading his is evolving in the Middle School answer to question open up schools on 1st Choice classes I see a choice classes play Separate there's no please choose yeah so no it's a good question but we're right now we're giving us patterning of all cars are so the only choice right now that 6th graders are making again this is a evolving process but right now the only choice that a sixth grader is making is between those those three music classes band chorus or general music everybody every 6th grader will get computer science once a week and the idea again is this battering and then 7th grade day you're depending on what happens to the way it isn't it isn't balding but depending on what happens your child will choose computer science chorus or band or music General music not going to don't hold me to that when we get to next summer where we're going we want to give more of ride do you want to give more variety of choice so right now at stand are 7th graders going into 7th grade had to choose between band and chorus but even that could change by the end of summer get trying to get someone in band and say computer science so I hope that next yes so we try to get the supply lists out to eat team and we asked about teeth grade we ask the supply list to be generic so that both we asked the content teachers on both teams to agree on a supply list so we're not saying this is 6 Blue supply list and this is six white supply list of confusing right so where supply list will be posted on the website just keep in mind though the website is changing and we just got a new company I have a training for that in the 13 so I imagine at some point you may click him have site and it will work but have no fear it'll be back it just it just weird is changing companies my son is excited to see science at the middle school level are there any extra science activities or programs so extra science activities aside from science class there's kind of a branch off of the previous question computer science would be the other option computer science we don't have teachers specifically for yeah we have teachers that we are anticipating that will be in that position and those teachers are very dedicated to taking on things where we applied for a robotics Grant so there's a lot of different things that the computer science course is going to offer that will I guess mesh well with science other than that you know it's science and computer science that would be the two courses that are directly related to science yes and we will when we know more details we will send them out so like I said the most important thing now for you is if you didn't get the email that I sent to you for this link obviously the 49 of you did that you're good if you if you got sent to someone else make sure the school that your child is currently in you update your you update your email because that's the you know that's that's the primary way of communicating and important stuff I'll make phone calls and you listen to my voice at 5 at night when you try and eat dinner but yeah we'll send phone calls to what email is our primary mode of communication okay where summer packet will be on the website we have them we just haven't posted them yet so so and then we'll like I did with this I will send a mass email to the 6th grade all the incoming 6th grade parents about this summer packet so someone saying they're having a difficult time signing okay so we got to check that out what time signing up all right if that person could just stay on for a little bit longer we can maybe help you is that the last question wish I was going to put her male in the chat so that whoever's trying to sign up with having difficulty please email mrs. hunt the website Burlington website oh that's a good question is my child's computer's acting up Shy change it prior to their arrival at FMS I don't think you need to I would certainly bring it to the building that your son or daughter is in I bring it to their attention and if they give you if they give you a replacement that's great but from what I everyone's going to come up with a computer but not soon after that everything will you'll go be swapped out and where can you get the sour pack of the summer packets will be posted online I'm going to email them to you okay so mrs. hunt put her email in the chat are there any other questions and if you know a parent that could not get on a link or you know for some reason I have three kids so I get it probably busy running around crazy this recorded Zoom will be posted on the website once we get the recording which was very long I'm sorry who dresses school safety topics conversation kids that are getting very depressions depending on school teacher right now is there more unified approach the topic school safety topics that's generally a school conversation so the one of the main things that we do are one of the main reasons that we consolidate the lunches I'm too cheap Pacific is because we'd like to use that time to have a team meeting smaller group of kids we can address various topics cancel that. primary where we talked about the safety of me whether that's you know running in the hallway or anything or things more serious if there's a message to to get out we use those lunches as like a town hall meeting and I don't I'm not sure I understand the Impressions depending on school and teacher right now are you saying that the are you asking about the safety plan in the school and if everyone understands the safety plan if that's your question then yes we do all the teachers call the safety plan their posted in their subfolder they're in our Google drive as a teacher Resource as far as the Alice training if that's if that's part that you're alluding to that is also we're moving forward with that guidance counselors are they are to speak with students should they have specific concerns we are always here to hear whatever it is that students want to tell us I think that's part the impression is going to be yours right so when you come here and your child's here I think that's part of what we do well here is create an environment where the kids know that they're comfortable to come to us I mean least I think so and that's the that's the drama beating is awareness and having the kids see something that alarms them they come talk to us they Tonka guidance will have glaucoma to social in the building I also psychologists teachers are on the front line and listening and always giving us things that we should pay attention to our look at I hope that he'll die of lab. It's the message that we did not specifically reach out regarding the school school shootings to watch milk was a little different in my opinion and we we definitely addressed it with teachers but Middle School different is very levels of anxiety and understanding of those events so if a student is feeling anxious or wants to talk talk to someone that's when we would alert the student to guidance or we would sit with them and then any parent that has concerns obviously we're I'm here all time I read my email and then respond to Skipper the missus exactly the same and we have many different precautions in line we're monitoring emails is a you know we're doing a lot to ensure that safety in it like I said I've to I just want you to know is it Miss nicoletti two middle school students going to be 3 I I understand and can can agree with it but it's at home we got we have talked to the kids at home and if you if they have never read how you going to join them in our direction or you can email us okay you just take that up you sneak out if you have any concerns you please email me or Reach Out yeah reminders or any other questions then if it's something you don't want to put a chat you can email any one of us can someone put all of our emails and once the all all of our emails in there and that if is no more questions we will say good night I'm sorry to you can play this you trying to go to sleep tonight everyone is welcome to come too Ramada in this thing great we are going to end the meeting thank you Rob
